Infrared controller placement
Place the controller in the same room with line of sight.
The controller sends infrared commands like the original remote. It does not need new control wiring, a data cable to the air-conditioner, or modification of the aircon unit.
Infrared does not pass through walls. Place the controller in the same room with a clear path to the air-conditioner and a suitable power and network connection.
Original-remote status varies by controller. M200 can detect compatible remote commands and update the reported state. Other IR controllers may not know that someone used the physical remote, so review this behaviour if accurate app status matters.

Can I make my existing air-conditioner smart?
Often, yes. These controllers are intended for compatible air-conditioners that already use an infrared remote. Brand, model and command compatibility still need checking; a unit with a wired proprietary wall controller or no infrared remote may need a different integration approach.
Do smart aircon controllers need special wiring?
No special control wiring or data cable to the air-conditioner is normally required for the infrared products on this page. The controller needs its own suitable power and network connection, then sends infrared commands to the existing unit.
Do I need one aircon controller in every room?
Usually, yes, when separate rooms are divided by walls. Infrared does not pass through walls, so each controller needs a practical line of sight to the air-conditioner it controls. One controller may reach more than one compatible unit in the same open room, but placement and command behaviour must be tested.
What happens if someone uses the original aircon remote?
The air-conditioner will still respond to its original remote. Whether the app learns about that change depends on the controller. M200 can detect compatible remote commands and update the reported status; other IR controllers may continue showing the last command they sent.
Do I need a separate temperature sensor?
Not for basic remote control. Mysa includes room temperature and humidity readings. Aqara hub-based control can use a compatible Aqara climate sensor when you want the automation to respond to measured conditions elsewhere in the room.
Can I control the air-conditioner through Apple Home, Google Home or Alexa?
Selected controllers support these platforms, but the route and exposed functions vary. Mysa supports Apple Home, Google Home and Alexa directly; M200 and M3 can expose supported aircon control through Matter integrations. Check the exact product and platform requirements before choosing.
Will smart aircon control work without internet?
The original aircon remote continues to work independently. Local Aqara scenes and automations may continue through a compatible hub, depending on the devices and configuration, while control from outside the home and cloud-dependent functions require internet. Mysa app and integration behaviour depends on its network and service connection.
Will a smart aircon controller reduce electricity use?
The controller does not make the air-conditioner itself more efficient. It can help reduce unnecessary operation through schedules, away routines, temperature conditions and easier remote shut-off. Actual energy use still depends on the air-conditioner, set point, room, weather and household behaviour.
