Launch of the Aqara Camera G100

Aqara has launched its newest, most affordable security camera! Called the Aqara Camera G100, this is Aqara’s second outdoor-compatible camera, with a small size that makes it inconspicuous.

The G100 Advantage

As the sixth addition to the Aqara camera line up, the G100 has a few things going for it.

  • It’s the smallest camera – even smaller than the Aqara G2H Pro, previously the winner of this category
  • It’s available in both white and black – most other Aqara cameras were only available in white, except the Aqara G5 Pro.
  • It has an IP65 rating – so it can be used outdoors, something that only the Aqara G5 Pro shares
  • It has an LED floodlight for night-time scenarios, either for clearly illuminating the view, or for alerting bad actors that there’s a camera there for deterrence. Only the G5 Pro has this feature.
  • Perhaps most importantly – it’s the most affordable camera in the line up!

Some other notes

No Pan and Tilt – Quite a lot of people are asking for cameras that can do pan-tilt – meaning that you can use the app to make the camera ‘look around’. The Aqara G100 doesn’t do that – instead only offering a fixed, static view. This isn’t inherently a problem, as we’ve discussed before, mainly because you should plan to have your cameras capture the view that you want for security anyway. Pan and tilt only works in real-time to stream what you want to see at a particular moment. You can’t go back in time to see what happened yesterday at a different angle.

Apple HomeKit Secure Video

Aqara G2H HomeKit Notifications

As usual with Aqara cameras, this camera supports HomeKit Secure Video (HSV), meaning it integrates into Apple Home with Apple’s secure protocols. HSV ensures that all recorded footage is encrypted end‑to‑end before it leaves your home, processed securely in iCloud, and stored with Apple’s stringent privacy controls. The G100 will therefore tap into HSV’s intelligent features—such as activity zones, facial recognition, person detection, and encrypted recording – while offloading the processing heavy lifting to your iCloud+ subscription.

Of course, the camera works without HSV as well, integrating into your Aqara Home app. It also supports Google Home and Alexa.

Conclusion

As a basic, no-frills camera, the Aqara G100 is a very welcome addition to the range, especially at this price point. It’s diminutive size makes it inconspicuous and unobtrusive, and its other features make it advanced in the ways it needs to be. Having a black coloured option is also very welcome!
