Setting up the Aqara G2H in Apple Home

The Aqara G2H is a versatile camera that has broad compatibility, all built in a small package. With its full support for Apple HomeKit Secure Video, the Aqara G2H can be set up entirely on the Apple Home app, and completely bypassing the Aqara Home app.

Setting up the camera on Apple Home couldn’t be simpler. Simply follow these steps.

  1. Plug in your Aqara G2H into power
  2. Turn on your iPhone
  3. Open the iPhone’s default Camera app
  4. Point the camera at the QR code on the bottom of the camera base
  5. Tap on “Open in Apple Home” on your phone
  6. Follow the instructions on your phone

It’s really that simple!

The other things you’ll need

With the camera set up on the Apple Home app, you’ll immediately be able to view the camera footage through the app. However, for access to further functionality, you’ll need more hardware or services.

Remote viewing

To be able to view the camera when you’re not at home, you’ll need an Apple Home Hub (which is different from an Aqara Hub – more info here). An Apple Home Hub can be one of these products: HomePod, HomePod mini, Apple TV, or iPad. Once set up as a hub, the device must remain in your home, connected to wifi, and powered.

Facial recognition

You’ll also need an Apple Home Hub for facial recognition.

Recording to iCloud

You’ll need an Apple Home Hub plus an iCloud storage plan to be able to record your footage to iCloud. Then, you’ll be able to retrieve up to 10 days of footage from anywhere (with an internet connection).

FAQ

  1. Aqara does allow you to use the Apple HomeKit app to set up automations, but only if have an Apple TV or HomePod acting as your hub. If you want to add automations, notifications and alerts for your Aqara devices, you will need to set it up in the Aqara app.
